The long walk

I love church history--well, any history for that matter. I think that if I'd never have had an interest in history, that this painting would inspire that interest. I can't figure out why paintings from this artist aren't plastered all over the walls of Deseret Book, Seagul Book, and other historic art sellers' walls. This scene is depicted so beautifully. I want to climb into the painting and engage in a conversation with this soldier. I love the details, such as the canteen. In my opinion, Carolyn Davidson is every bit as worthy of an artist as Liz Lemon Swindle, Greg Olsen, and Simon Dewey, and Minerva Teichert. Her attention to detail, and her sensitivity to color, nature, and emotion will one day bring the recognition that she now deserves. Her artwork lifts me, and moves my thoughts, and touches my sensitivities. That's what art is all about. Thank you for this precious depiction of a tattered and almost forgotten piece of American history. Thank you for listening to the echos of the past, and for capturing these images on canvas. It enlarges the understanding and perceptions of us today.
